Enrique Camarena Award 2010 

Each year we ask every Lodge to nominate a law enforcement officer who has made a significant contribution in the field of drug prevention and to their community.  This year’s winner of the Illinois Elks Association’s Enrique Camarena Award is Officer Eric Gwaltney of the Streator Police Department.

 

Officer Gwaltney began his career in 2003 and was assigned to the Patrol Division. In additional to his patrol duties, Officer Gwaltney is part of the Streator Emergency response Team (Swat). Officer Gwaltney also worked in the department’s under cover narcotic’s unit. His community has gained greatly from his hard work and dedication. His arrest have helped disorganized major drug dealing efforts and have prevented gangs from organizing in the community. Officer Gwaltney has made numerous drug and alcohol arrest and has seized thousands of dollars worth of illegal drugs and drug related money.
