Each year, when Great Lakes
Naval Training Center’s School Command closes for the holidays, over two
thousand traveling military visit the USO at O’Hare. It is referred to as the
EXODUS. Some of their guests have several hours before their flight leaves.
On Friday, Dec. 17, Des Plaines Elks Lodge 1526 provided a
wonderful lunch for all the traveling military. They delivered four elegant
assorted meet and cheese trays, thirty loaves of bread, two hundred devilled
eggs, and thirty cases of pop.
There was an unending line of hungry military that took full advantage of the
food provided. These provisions provided lunch and/or snacks for two days.
The Elks Volunteer's were, National Veterans Service Chairman Mr. Richard Eirich,
Ginny Parenteau, Dudley Parenteau, Mike Butler and Aug Schwiesow. This was a
gift of which we, as Elks, are very proud of.
