Mt. Vernon Elks Participate In National Night Out - 2011

National Night Out was sponsored by the Mt. Vernon Police Department and this is the 3rd year Elroy has been to the event.  We handed out erasers, bookmarks and pencil bags with the Elks Drug Awareness message.  The event was held at the Rolland Lewis Community Center and Mt. Vernon City Park.  It featured inflatable games and things outside, and inside city residents were treated to burgers and hot dogs, chips, baked beans, popcorn, sno-cones and cotton candy.  There were also K-9 demonstrations.  All of this was free to all Mt. Vernon residents and the officers and support staff of the Mt. Vernon Police Department and their spouses did all the cooking, serving, game tending and clean up.  The police department estimates there were approximately 1,000 people in attendance throughout the evening.

The Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge was proud to be a part of this wonderful community effort.
